GREAT OUTFITS IN FASHION HISTORY: GWEN STEFANI’S FUZZY BLUE BIKINI TOP

There are those celebrity style moments that fit perfectly, and then there are the moments that really stick with you, the moments you try so hard to recreate at home. In ‘The Great Outfits in Fashion History’, Fashionista editors are revisiting their all-time favorite lewks.

During the ’90s and 2000s, Gwen Stefani’s stylistic approach was similar to that of hers and her band No Doubt: She borrowed from many cultures (including those without she probably shouldn’t have) and subcultures to create an appearance all her own. One of mainstream music’s best dressed, the punk princess look of that much-talked-about era is truly memorable, if a bit chaotic at times.

For example, who could forget the blue fur bikini – with matching hair – she wore at the 1998 MTV Video Music Awards? The gems on the top, the hair and the face are the focal point, but there’s also a lot below the waist, like a futuristic black dress worn over baggy pants and high-heeled flip-flops. Stefani told Vogue that the look was inspired by Judy Jetson. I don’t remember Jetson being a racer, but I get that.
